Q. Do we need to make a booking?
A. If your group is larger than 10 people, then YES!
In order to ensure you have the very best experience with us, we would like to advise that we can only accept groups of 10 or more by prior booking/arrangement. This is required as we only have limited staffing and space, and a considerable amount of preparation is required before your arrival to ensure you have a memorable visit. At busier times we often have numerous other group bookings and events taking place, or may have a very high number of visitors already in the shop, so to avoid disappointment, please make a booking (via email or phone (07) 4162 8222) as far in advance as possible. Even if you have less than 10, feel free to contact us to let us know that you are coming so that we can really “roll out the red carpet” for you.
N.B. We only have seating for a maximum of 32 people if you wish to do tastings. If your group is larger than this, we will not be able to do formal tastings, however, your group is more than welcome to visit the shop and peruse and purchase some of our huge selection of local gourmet deli foods and boutique wines. (Please contact us/make a booking prior to ensure we have sufficient staffing at the time of your visit).
Q. How does it work?
A. There are 2 options available for groups
Option 1. This is our most popular option, where groups are given platters full of local produce to sample and enjoy as a morning or afternoon tea. The platters may include a selection the following: Kingaroy’s famous peanuts, plus locally produced chutneys, olives, cheeses, pickles and smoked smallgoods, all served with bread and crackers. We will also tell the stories behind these boutique products, as well as a brief overview of the region, plus an information sheet on the products being trialed. In addition to the platters, the groups will treated to a selection of our creamy, smooth and delightful Kingaroy’s Luxury Fudge (made by us, right here on site), all washed down with tastings and discussion of 3 different varieties of local wine and liqueur. Also included in this option is a cold drink (See our drinks options here). Hot Drinks can be purchased separately if desired. Time is then given for the group to ask further questions, relax in the alfresco dining area and browse through the shop and purchase their favourites. Groups will be seated at our outdoor banquet tables, in groups of approximately 7-8 per table.
Option 2. This is generally for groups on a limited time schedule. The group will be offered small samples of a selection of gourmet local favourites, this will include (but not limited to): freshly roasted local peanuts, fudge, boutique cheeses, olives, locally smoked smallgoods and meats, plus samples of 3 local wines/liqueurs, as well as a brief guided talk through each tasting, plus an information sheet on the products being trialed. After the tastings, your group is free to roam our shop to purchase any of the products they have sampled, plus any of our other delicious products. Groups will be seated at our outdoor banquet tables, in groups of approximately 7-8 per table.
Q. How much does it cost?
A. Cost will vary depending on the option chosen, and the price per person is payable by all attendees (Coach driver is free of charge)
Option 1. $14.50pp, including GST
Option 2. $6.50pp, including GST
There is also a surcharge of 20% should your booking coincide with a public holiday. We appreciate the payment to be made as a lump sum, either by card, cash or cheque. If you wish to pay separately, this can be accommodated, but arrangements MUST be made prior.
Q. How will the weather affect the tastings?
A. All of our tastings for larger groups are done outdoors in our Alfresco Dining area
During the cooler months, we recommend you dress warmly, as Kingaroy can be quite brisk. In the unlikely event of heavy rain or bad weather disrupting your tastings, we will endeavour to accommodate your group on our shop, or attempt to reschedule the tastings. Please feel free to contact us to discuss alternatives.
Q. How do you make a booking?
A. To book your group tastings, please call or email us to arrange your preferred date and time.
Please also let us know what other establishments you are planning on visiting in the area, so that we can tailor the tasting to ensure there is sufficient variety and no duplication. Please also advise if any members of your group have any dietary restrictions or mobility issues.
Q. What do we need to bring along?
A. While we provide everything that you should need for a enjoyable visit, we also suggest that you bring along the following:
1. An esky, coolers or a travel fridge, as some of our products require refrigeration. Your group may be disappointed to leave town having not selected their favourites to take home, so we strongly recommend that you bring something along to help keep the purchases fresh. We can help provide ice (please advise prior)
2. TIME! So that your group has enough time for the tastings and to browse our cellar door, we recommend up to 60 minutes for Option 1 (based on group size of 32) and 25-45mins for Option 2.
3. Your taste buds, enthusiasm to try something new, a sense of humour and possibly some warm clothing in winter or cool clothing in the warmer months. And don’t forget a pen or pencil to mark down on your information sheets any notes or to highlight products you wish to buy.
