South Burnett Verdelho is widely considered to be some of the finest in Australia (and the world for that matter) and this cellar re-release is a stunning example of the range of styles that can be produced. Often under-rated as an aged style, this 2012 Verdelho shuns the widely accepted lightness, vibrancy and bold aromatics of younger verdelho. It is instead complex and rich with fruit (think green apple and paw-paw) on the palate. The bouquet exudes gently from the glass with lifted citrus, passionfruit and melon notes and then exhibits a more complex, almost oak influenced finish (even though it has never seen the merest splinter of oak in its lifetime) and should continue to develop in the bottle until at least 2019. Best matched with grilled fish or even a turkey or chicken salad. Will appeal to drinkers of lighter styled Chardonnay and Semillon. Terrific value!
